Graduation Requirements

Below are the graduation requirements for the students at Kell High School.  Please note that the graduation requirements for the senior class of 2011 are different than the graduation requirements for the class of 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.  Contact your Guidance Counselor if your student should have Graduated in 2011 and you have questions about their specific graduation requirements.

CLASS OF 2013, 2014, 2015, AND 2016 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Math: 4 Units Math 1-Math 4 (varying Maths for Math 4)
English: 4 Units (must include 9th lit and American Lit)
Science: 4 Units (must include biology, Physics or Physical Science, Chemistry or Earth Systems or Environmental Science, 4th additional science)
Social Studies: 3 Units (must include World History, US History, and Government/Econ)
Career Tech, Fine Arts, and/or Foreign Language: 3 Units
Health and Personal Fitness: 1 Unit (Health 0.5/Personal Fitness 0.5)
Electives: 4 Units
TOTAL: 23

*Please note that there is ONE diploma type for the class of 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016
*Entrance into 4 year colleges and universities require at least 2 or more consecutive years of foreign language*

Promotion Requirements
Freshman to Sophomore: Must pass 9th lit, Biology, and Math along with 2 additional units (5 total units) to be promoted to Sophomore status
Sophomore to Junior: Must pass Literature, Science, and Math along with 2 additional units (10 total units) to be promoted to Junior status
Junior to Senior: Must pass Literature, Science, and Math along with 3 additional units (16 total units) to be promoted to Senior status


Testing Requirements                                                                   All Students must pass the Georgia High School Writing Test (GHSWT).
Students who entered high school in 2009 and 2010 must also pass:
  • Ninth Lit.  or American Lit. EOCT or Eng./Lang. Arts GHSGT
  • Math I or II EOCT or Math GHSGT
  • Biology EOCT or Science GHSGT  
  • US History or Econ. EOCT or Social Studies GHSGT
Students entering high school 2011-12 and beyond must pass the GHSWT only and END OF COURSE TESTS (EOCT)
Students must take EOCTs as the final exam in each of the following subjects and the test results will count for either 15% or 20% of the total course grade, depending on the student’s high school entry date (see attached chart for details)  
Math I, Math II, Biology, Ninth Grade Literature, American Literature, US History, & Economics
